When I first came across this DIY Elderberry Gummy Bear recipe, I was inspired to make them for my own family. My oldest daughter is 3 and medicinal candies are an excellent way to get her the nutrition she needs. Plus, the whole family can eat and enjoy these treats. Thank you to Sarah from Recipes & Rituals for this beautiful recipe we love so much!

This post is an ode to Sarah’s fantastic Elderberry Gummies and how you can incorporate doTERRA essential oils into this recipe for a pure, potent burst of flavor and health.

Elderberry is a popular remedy in the natural community and has been beloved for decades as an easy, fun way to stave off seasonal threats.

In my family we consume Elderberry concoctions every year, particularly in the Fall and Winter months.

Elderberry supports the immune system. It is rich in antioxidants and has many benefits for the body!

And while my husband and I enjoy the taste, sometimes it’s a bit trickier to get our daughter Emma to support her immune system without sweet treats. Thank you, gummies!

“Historically, the flowers and leaves have been used for pain relief, swelling, inflammation, to stimulate the production of urine and to induce sweating. The bark was used as a diuretic, laxative and to induce vomiting (1Trusted Source). In folk medicine, the dried berries or juice are used to treat influenza, infections, sciatica, headaches, dental pain, heart pain and nerve pain, as well as a laxative and diuretic (2).

Additionally, the berries can be cooked and used to make juice, jams, chutneys, pies and elderberry wine. The flowers are often boiled with sugar to make a sweet syrup or infused into tea.”

What you’ll need:

  • 1 Cup Elderberry Syrup

  • 3 Tablespoons Gelatin (I love Vital Proteins brand)

  • 3 Tablespoons Honey

  • doTERRA Wild Orange essential oil

  • doTERRA Cinnamon Essential Oil (optional)

  • Gummy Bear mold

How to make:

  1. First combine your Elderberry and Gelatin in a saucepan and bring to a boil

  2. Mix thoroughly

  3. Turn your heat to low

  4. With the heat on low, simmer this combination for five minutes, stirring constantly

  5. Remove from heat

  6. After 1 minute, add your Honey and stir. You want to do this while it’s still warm but not too hot, so make sure you wait a full minute before adding Honey to your saucepan

  7. Add 3 drop of doTERRA Wild Orange essential oil to your mixture

  8. If you want to add doTERRA Cinnamon essential oil, use the “toothpick method”- dip the end of a toothpick into the Cinnamon and gently stir into the mixture so that you don’t get too much. This is a great way to subtly introduce a strong potent flavor like Cinnamon into a recipe without overdoing it.

  9. Wait another moment to let cool just a bit more and allow some of the liquid to evaporate

  10. Pour the mixture into gummy bear molds

  11. Transfer mold to fridge and let chill for two hours

  12. Enjoy!
